Sharon's Secret Foundation - Regular Weight - 1yd is 19"x36"

This foundation is perfect for machine applique. The weight of it is heavy enough to make your applique pieces strong and durable for sewing by machine. When it comes time to quilt your appliqued top, this foundation keeps your pieces sturdy and makes it easy to quilt over. After quilting, wash with Synthrapol and your applique pieces will become very soft and will have the appearance of hand-applique.  This foundation also gives your applique a soft trapunto look, which gives your whole quilt life!

Step-by-step Instructional Video:

This foundation is also perfect for foundation piecing.  You can cut it to any size you need.  In addition, you can cut it to the size of a piece of printer paper, and run it through any printer, for printing your favorite paper piecing pattern.  Once you use it for your piecing, there's no need to tear it away.  It can stay in, and will become a part of your quilt. It truly makes foundation piecing and machine applique so much easier for you.

In addition, this foundation is wonderful for machine embroidery. Sharon recommends using it as a foundation for all of her embroidered applique quilt designs.

The foundation is 19" wide, and sold by the yard. Samples are also available as an 1/4yd cut. I will cut off the amount you order and fold it for packaging. I will also label it with the yardage and type of foundation.

Washing Recommendation:
After washing, the foundation softens and gives the piece a light trapunto effect. Wash the finished quilt with a full laundry load's worth of Tide, or other detergent, along with Synthrapol to break down and wash away the glue used for the applique technique. Soaking overnight in Synthrapol and working the piece with your hands is highly recommended for best results. If you experience stiffness in the applique after washing, it is likely that the glue hasn't been washed out completely. Soak the piece in Sythrapol once more and wash with Tide, or other detergent.
