Welcome to my little stop on the blog hop to celebrate Carrie Bloomston's new line of fabric: Story.
If this is your first time visiting me, welcome! I'm Cristy Fincher. I'm a mom, wife, quilter, teacher, and pattern designer. I had the honor of meeting Carrie through our beautiful friend, Bari J. And I'm lucky enough to live just minutes away from her, but we don't see each other nearly as often as my creative soul would like. But the thing about Carrie is that even though days, weeks and months may go by, the moment we're in the same space all of that time goes away. She welcomes me into her creative world with open arms, unconditionally.
Carrie's new line, Story, inspires soulful creativity. Whether you piece quilts, do appliqué, make clothing, make bags, or decoupage, the saturated colors and textures will help you bring the story of your creativity to life.
When Story arrived, I couldn't wait to cut it all apart and sew it back together again (as any good quilter would do, right?). I decided to make a new version of my Lotus Pond quilt, and play with different color combinations. The way a simple thing like color choice can impact a design so completely always amazes me.
(The Lotus Pond pattern is available in my Craftsy class.)
Planning my colors with Story was so much fun. I'm in love with the navy newsprint, and used it for the center which runs through the quilt.
These are the two different Lotus Pond blocks I made with Story, each featuring different prints and colors:
I love the feeling of both of them, but couldn't decide which one I wanted for the quilt, so I used the PicFrame app on my phone to make some collages. Have you ever used a photo collage app as a virtual design wall? I really love using PicFrame on my iPhone to help me see how multiple blocks will look together, without having to sew tons of blocks. I put both blocks into PicFrame, and came up with a few different layouts. Isn't that navy newsprint wonderful?! It's like a deep, dark river running through my quilt.:
Seeing my designs come to life keeps me motivated to create. Using Carrie's Story prints brings something special and unique to my creations.
I'm not sure which quilt I'll make. There are still many blocks to finish up, and I can't wait to keep creating.
What will you create with Story? Carrie is having an amazing giveaway: three lucky winners will win a copy of her book Little Spark AND a fat quarter bundle of Story. To enter the giveaway, head on back to Carrie's blog and comment on her post.
See the Story lookbook here.
Happy quilting! I can't wait to see what you create!
